Een eBook uitdaging

Het realiseren van een boek, brochure of tijdschrift stond al sinds mijn opleiding aan de Grafische school (1980) in het teken van drukwerk en papier. ePub is de digitale variant waarin boeken kunnen worden uitgegeven. Epub is een afkorting van electronic publication. Je kunt eBooks met praktisch elke ereader op de markt (behalve de Kindle van Amazon) openen en lezen.

Het in 2017 – door Ineke Hilhorst, Teun Koetsier en Elbert Roest – geschreven boek ‘De slag om de Berg-Stichting’ trok ook buitenlandse aandacht en is door Reinier van Hofslot, Guus van de Ven en Mike Endacott in het engels vertaald. Met gebruikmaking van de originele bestanden en foto’s – ontwerp Berry Slok – heb ik deze engelstalige versie mogen opmaken en voorbereid als eBook. Een leuke en leerzame uitdaging!

The story of the home for Jewish children, the Berg Foundation, is the story of the most disastrous event in the history of the Dutch town of Laren. The Nazis murdered forty-eight pupils and four staff members of the Berg Foundation during the holocaust. In memory of them, a Monument for the Jewish Children was erected at Langsakker, near the place where the Berg Foundation was once located.
A village can indeed reflect on its history. Especially if that history can add meaning to the present time. We hope that the younger generation – having the same age as the forty-eight murdered children of the Berg Foundation – can learn from our own past.
